Breast Lift

As you age, the force of gravity can take its toll on your breasts as well as your self-esteem. We understand the importance of feeling good about yourself, and our doctors strive to provide the safest procedure for you with the most natural results. Through a breast lift, we help rejuvenate your figure with more youthful, lifted and firmer breasts.

What is Breast Lift?

Breast lift, technically called mastopexy, is surgery to raise and improve the shape of a female breast. When an increase in breast volume is desired, breast implants may be inserted in conjunction with a lift. A breast lift might be right for you if your breasts:

  • Sag or are pendulous, but are proportionate with the body frame
  • Have lost firmness and skin elasticity
  • Have a flatter, elongated shape
  • When unsupported, have nipples that fall below the breast crease
  • Have nipples and areolas that point downward
  • Have stretched skin and enlarged areolas

My Breast Lift

When discussing your breast lift, your doctor will explain all of your options and work with you to create an individualized procedure. The safest and most appropriate technique for your case will be determined by:

  • Breast size and shape
  • The size and position of the areolas
  • The degree of breast sagging
  • Skin quality and skin elasticity as well as the amount of extra skin

Though there are many variations to the procedure, the most common pattern for the incision is around the areola, vertically down from the areola to the breast crease and horizontally along the breast crease. If needed, the nipple and areola are repositioned to a more natural height during this time.

Recovery

When making the decision about a breast lift, we emphasize that healing is a gradual process and a crucial part of this procedure. We realize that you may lead a busy life – whether you are a mom, professional or both – and the amount of recovery time is important when making your decision. Below, you can gain a better understanding of your recovery time.

  • Within days of your surgery, you may return to light, normal activity with no heavy lifting or lifting anything over your head for three to four weeks
  • Initial healing may take 10-14 days, at which time any sutures will be removed, possibly allowing a return to work, as long as no heavy lifting is required
  • Swelling will go down and incision lines will continue to improve over the next several weeks
  • It is important to follow your doctor’s instructions to heal properly and ensure the greatest results. It is vital to take time for yourself and rest. Remember, you are doing this for you.
