Brow Lift

Our facial expressions often are visible signs of how we feel. However, what shows on the outside does not always reflect your true self on the inside. This is particularly true regarding the area around the eyes and brow, where lines and creases can make a person appear angry, sad or tired.

In your consultation, it is important to understand the technique that your surgeon recommends and why he feels it is best for you. After deciding on the most appropriate procedure, your doctor will create a tailored plan based on your specific needs. The goal: to achieve a more rejuvenated appearance that will help you discover your best self.

What is a Brow Lift?

A brow lift improves the appearance of the facial region between the upper eyelids and scalp, extending to the temples. The procedure improves drooping brows and minimizes the appearance of lines and creases in the forehead.
A brow lift can:

  • Reduce furrows and other signs of aging in the forehead and brow areas, creating a softer, relaxed and rejuvenated facial appearance
  • Minimize the creases that develop across the forehead, or those that occur high on the bridge of the nose, between the eyes
  • Improve what are commonly referred to as “frown lines” – vertical creases that develop between the eyebrows
  • Reposition a low or sagging brow that is “hooding” the upper eyelid
  • Raise the eyebrows to a more alert and youthful position, opening around the eye

A brow lift can be performed alone or in conjunction with other rejuvenation procedures such as eyelid surgery or a facelift. Depending on your features, the procedure could involve multiple limited incisions hidden within the hairline or through a single incision in the natural crease of each upper eyelid.

Results of a brow lift may be enhanced through laser resurfacing or a chemical peel that can further improve skin tone and surface appearance. When there is significant excess skin in the forehead, an alternate technique using an incision across the top of the scalp may be recommended.

My Brow Lift

Your doctor will create an individualized procedure by examining your skin, muscle tone, forehead height and bone structure, while also addressing the specific condition you wish to correct. Our doctors will help you decide which surgical approach will best achieve your cosmetic goals with either the classic, also known as the "open" method, or the endoscopic forehead lift.

An endoscopic or minimal-scar brow lift is performed using a tiny fiber optic lens inserted through half-inch incisions placed in the hairline. Your surgeon will perform the procedure while watching a television monitor and manipulating the instruments externally.

An endoscopic brow lift is more useful with younger patients because the removal of excess skin is not required. With an endoscopic brow lift, loss of sensation or hair at the incision site is minimized. Since an endoscopic brow lift can significantly reduce the frown lines between the eyes, it is often performed in conjunction with upper eyelid surgery to achieve the most natural results.

Although incisions are typically concealed by a hair-bearing scalp, patients who have thinning hair or are bald may still benefit from a brow lift. All of these individual factors will be considered when determining the appropriate technique or combination of procedures to best achieve your realistic goals.

Recovery

Your recovery time is an important consideration when deciding if a brow lift is right for you. Below, you can gain a better understanding of what to expect after surgery and the amount of time to recover.

  • A return to light, normal activity is possible within a few days of surgery or as soon as you feel ready
  • You should be able to shower and shampoo your hair within two days
  • Initial wound healing may take five to ten days, at which time any sutures or clips will be removed, and you will be able to return to work and normal activity at this time.
  • Healing may continue for several weeks as swelling continues to dissipate and incision lines refine and fade

Initial healing may include some swelling, numbness, discomfort, an itchy scalp – particularly at the incision sites – and some facial movements may be restricted or temporarily impaired. Your doctor will instruct you to keep your head elevated at all times until initial swelling has subsided. It is important to follow your doctor’s instructions to heal properly and ensure the greatest results. It is crucial to take time for yourself and rest. Remember, you are doing this for you
