Chin Augmentation
A weak chin can often detract from your overall facial structure. Your nose may appear larger than it actually is, creating an unbalanced appearance and affecting your self-image and confidence. With a chin augmentation, an implant can restore balance to your face by providing a more proportionate chin.
Our doctors want to help you achieve your desired results and enhance your self-confidence. In your consultation, your doctor will always keep your personal health in mind and work with you to choose the safest and most natural choice for a more balanced facial structure.
What is a Chin Augmentation?
A chin augmentation can correct a weak chin due to congenital deficiency, age-related bone absorption or facial trauma, by using facial implants to improve and enhance facial contours. Frequently, these implants provide a more harmonious balance to your facial structure and help you achieve your desired results.
Since the size of the chin may magnify or minimize the perceived size of the nose, oftentimes a chin augmentation is recommended in conjunction with nose reshaping to achieve facial proportion. Chin augmentation may be performed as part of an overall facial rejuvenation as well.
My Chin Augmentation
During the procedure, your doctor will select the implant that is the proper size and shape to enhance your appearance. The implant will be inserted into a pocket over the front of the jawbone with a small incision placed inside the mouth (along the lower lip) or in the skin just under the chin area. Insertion of a chin implant may take about an hour.
Recovery
When deciding if a chin augmentation is right for you, we understand that the amount of recovery time is an important consideration. Below, you can gain a better understanding of what to expect after surgery and the amount of time needed to recover.
- A return to light, normal activity can be expected within a few days of surgery
- Incision sites may be checked and your stitches removed in approximately 10 days, if necessary
- Do not exercise or engage in strenuous activities for at least three weeks
- Healing will continue for several weeks as swelling continues to dissipate
Initial healing may include swelling, bruising, numbness and discomfort. Remember, with any facial surgery, you may feel and look better in a short period of time. However, we do not advise participating in certain activities – especially an activity that may result in the face being jarred or bumped – for several weeks.
It is important to follow your doctor’s instructions to heal properly and ensure the greatest results. It is crucial to take time for yourself and rest. Remember, you are doing this for you.
