Eye Lift

The eyes are the most intriguing and revealing facial feature – drawing attention and conveying expression. Unfortunately, hereditary factors and the signs of aging can greatly impact the appearance of the eyes, so that what they reflect may not be really how you feel. What is an Eye Lift?

Cosmetic eyelid surgery, technically called blepharoplasty, improves the appearance of the upper eyelids, lower eyelids or both. Specifically, an eye lift can treat:

• Loose or sagging skin that creates folds or hides the natural contour of the upper eyelid
• Excess skin that hangs down from the upper eyelid, sometimes impairing vision
• Excess fatty deposits that appear as puffiness in the upper eyelids
• Bags under the eyes
• Droopiness of the lower eyelids, showing white below the iris
• Excess skin and fine wrinkles of the lower eyelid

These features can make you look older and more tired than you feel, and may even interfere with your vision. Our corrective procedure removes excess skin, eliminates bags and restores firmness to the area surrounding the eye, making you look more rested and alert. Individuals as young as their 20s and 30s may achieve an improvement in the appearance of their eyes through eyelid surgery.
 

My Eye Lift

Because every person is different, your eye lift requires a highly individualized approach. Through a consultation, your doctor will evaluate you and discuss your realistic goals for improvement. Correcting drooping eyelids, puffiness or bags can only be achieved surgically through repositioning muscle, by redistributing fat that has settled into contours and, when necessary, by removing excess skin.

In addition, skin resurfacing techniques may be recommended to further improve the tone and surface appearance of skin surrounding the eye. Where a low-positioned brow or crow’s feet at the outer corners of the eyes contribute to the aging appearance of the eyes, a brow lift may be more appropriate, or used in conjunction with eyelid surgery. In addition, a brow lift can also smooth a lined or furrowed forehead.

Whatever your race or ethnicity, we want to reassure you that we strive to achieve the most natural results without fundamentally changing your appearance. While the eye lift can add an eyelid crease to Asian eyes, the surgery will not erase evidence of your ethnic or racial heritage. You will still be you.
 

Recovery

Recovery is an important consideration when making the decision about an eye lift.  Below, you can gain a better understanding of your recovery time. 

• A return to light, normal activity is possible within days of surgery
• You should be able to read or watch television after two or three days.
• Healing of incisions may take five to ten days, at which time any sutures will be removed, if necessary, and you will be ready to return to work and normal activity
• You may wear contact lenses within about two weeks of your surgery
• Healing will continue for several weeks as swelling continues to dissipate and incision lines improve

Initial healing may include some swelling, bruising, irritation or dry eye, and discomfort. Your surgeon will instruct you to keep your head elevated at all times until initial swelling has subsided and to wear sunglasses to protect your eyes from bright light, sun and wind. It is important to follow your doctor’s instructions to heal properly and ensure the greatest results. It is crucial to take time for yourself and rest. Remember, you are doing this for you.
